1,000,000 Bottles on grandma’s Walls
Grandma Prisbrey’s bottle village is a quirky and fun folk art masterpiece which is built by using the bottles. It is also a brilliant approach to recycling. Tressa ‘Grandma’ Prisbrey started her Simi Valley, California, bottle village at the age of 60 to store her collection of 17,000 pencils.
She didn’t have an easy life. She got married in 1912. During marriage she was 14 year old and her first husband was 52. Even though they had seven children, she left him and raised all seven on her own. Again she married in 1947, but he lost his husband and six children before her own death in 1988.
This bottle village is all made up of bottles. The bottle chandelier and doll’s head shrine gives a unique and extraordinary look to this village. She transformed a 1/3 acre into a maze of other worldly wishing wells. Over 25 years, she collected more than 1000,000 bottles and built this village. Also she would happily share her bottle village creation with anyone willing to part with 25 cents.
Defining your risk tolerance
How does an individual investor determine his or her risk tolerance? Understanding this concept help investor in expanding his portfolio. First we need to consider investment, when will funds be needed? If the time frame is relatively short, risk tolerance should alter to be more conservative. If it is long term investment, then you will have opportunity for more aggressive investing.
Also you need to consider net worth and available risk capital while verifying risk tolerance. You could calculate your net worth by your assets minus liabilities. Risk capital is nothing but money available to trade or business that would not affect your lifestyle even if it is lost.
If you have high net worth, then it will consume more risk. Also, trader with little or no net worth or with limited risk capital is usually drawn to riskier investments. On the other hand, if an under capitalized agent using defined risk or limited one ‘goes bust’ because it may not take that trader long to recover.

New ways to fight bacteria
Doctors and infectious bacteria are locked in an arms race. The conflict has strengthened lately more and more bacteria particularly those lurking in hospitals. We throw thousands and thousands of antibiotics on bacteria say Marcin Filutowicz, a micro biologist at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Human’s aren’t the only ones suffer by infections. Bacteria’s too would get affected by virus. Scientists first discovered the presence of phages in 1917. Not all bacteria’s are harmful. Normally every human carries more than four pounds of bacteria. Some are harmful whereas some are beneficial.
Scientists are trying to harness these friendly bacteria to fight off against disease causing brethren and this approach is based on the ‘probiotics’ that are present in the yogurt and other products. In this ever escalating conflict, the bacteria develop ways to avoid every drug humans throw at them.
The situation is forcing researchers and scientists to think innovatively where the next antibacterial medications would come.

Threats to the world’s plants assessed
A new study released by the UN’s biodiversity summit says that ‘The world’s plants are facing an extinction rate on a par with mammals and every fifth plant species is threatened with extinction. Plants are essential for all living beings to live on earth since they are the base for food chain, oxygen supply, regulating the climate etc. Assessing the thread to all plants over the world is a higher challenge than that of rating threats to birds, animals, mammals.
According to Royal botanic gardens Kew’s director Stephen hopher, ‘The Red List index depicts that it is crucial tool to observe change in plant species. He said that it is entirely appropriate to scale up our efforts, if the loss of biodiversity increases. Actually the researchers plan to measure the threat status of the plants in 2015. Using the recent data published, they will be able to estimate whether the risk to plants is growing with time or not.
